My first real camera was a 35mm Agfa Ambi Sillette found at a garage sale when I was twelve.
It wasn’t only the pictures it made that fascinated me — it was everything about it: the warm silver of the metal, the aroma of the aged leather case, the click of the aperture ring, the precision of the leaf shutter...even the smell of a fresh roll of film on opening its plastic container seemed like magic being released!
It was almost as much about the physical experience as making images.
That fascination remained with me, and I studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Photography became both a discipline and a foundation for the creative business I would later build – to this day I am involved in all the photography and head the design.
My primary photographic influences would include Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Edward Steichen — from the immediacy of the decisive moment to the atmospheric craft of the Photo-Secession photographers.
It’s a dichotomy that continues to shape how I see: structure and spontaneity in equal measure.
I’m based in Columbus, Ohio, though travel is a constant thread in my work.
Hong Kong, Costa Rica, and southwest Florida have all shaped my photographs, along with journeys through the overlooked corners of America.
Alongside my personal work, I’m also deeply involved in product photography through my company, where craftsmanship and design meet commerce. The same attention to lighting, material, and composition that drives my fine art photography carries through to how I photograph the products we create.
Design, architecture, and music round out my creative life, each one offering a different way of searching for rhythm, structure, and atmosphere.
